Emmy is an electric mobility provider, founded by Alexander Meiritz, Valerian Seither, and Hauke Feldvoss and has experienced rapid growth since their founding. They currently operate over 3,000 electronic mopeds in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Düsseldorf.

Situation & Problem
Before being acquired & going public, emmy was working with a classical MSP (managed service provider). Throughout the growth of the company, the requirements with regards to operational efficiency and information security increased and emmy needed to prepare security audits and close GDPR gaps.
At the time, their internal IT administrator had been occupied with some long-term projects, leaving him only with limited time for employee lifecycle IT operations tasks.
As a result of the new requirements, they have had several IT administration processes and security controls not being properly implemented:
- no password & credential management,
- lack of overarching IT on-/offboarding processes with access policies,
- missing overview about hardware, applications, accounts & privileges,
- lack proper education and guidance on information security awareness and privacy,
- no clear license management & cost saving processes, or
- lack of device management (encryption, patching, malware protection), among others.

Result
After successfully onboarding emmy as a client, we have implemented a set of comprehensive measures to tackle IT security & operations issues at the organization in a collaborative effort with the IT administrator:
- We took inventory of emmy’s entire IT assets (employees, identities, devices, applications, accounts & access rights) and performed an application access audit within the IT environment; all of which can be accessed via our unique ZenAdmin platform.
- We enrolled the devices in our mobile device management (MDM) system and implemented security controls such as hardware encryption, managed endpoint detection & response (EDR), or managed patching of the operating systems.
- We have given emmy’s employees a human-centered security training through engaging and interactive content, followed by a phishing simulation.
- We also crafted a unique Internet usage policy and implemented a password manager.
As a result of the collaboration, emmy now has an improved IT operations maturity that is fit for its stage and prepared for any Security & Data Privacy audit.
